For over three generations, Stuart Benjamin & Co. Jewelry Designs has done more than design fine jewelry—we’ve had the privilege of marking life’s most meaningful moments.
Their story begins in the 1940s, when Stuart Benjamin’s grandfather Burt Benjamin opened a jewelry store in downtown San Diego. In an era defined by craftsmanship and personal service, that original storefront became a place where trust was earned one client at a time. Years later, Stuart’s father Ed, continued the family tradition, opening Ed Benjamin & Sons in Mission Valley, carrying forward the same uncompromising standards of quality, integrity, and care.
Stuart’s own love for jewelry began early—at just ten years old—dusting the showcases in his grandfather’s downtown store. What started as simple tasks quickly became a lifelong education. Growing up immersed in the business gave Stuart a deep, hands-on understanding of fine jewelry that can’t be learned from textbooks alone. It also instilled a respect for the relationships behind every piece: the craftsmen, the designers, the gem suppliers, and most importantly, the clients. Stuart's passion in jewelry carried on in the family tradition with him opening Stuart Benjamin & Co. Jewelry Designs together with business partner Barbara Wasserstrom, in Hazard Center Mall nearly 30 years ago.
That early foundation allowed Stuart to cultivate strong relationships throughout the jewelry industry—across the West Coast and nationally—earning the respect of peers and professionals alike. His leadership and commitment to the craft led him to serve as past president of the California Jewelers Association, and he remains deeply active in advancing excellence and ethics within the industry.
